Back from Sunday morning church here in East Texas. I must say, it’s a different experience than the big city churches I’m used to…. but that’s not a bad thing. It’s just different.
One thing that’s cool to see is the community that some of those smaller churches have. Everybody not only knows everyone else, but they’ve known them as long as they’ve been living in that town.
Community is such an important part of what a church does. Church isn’t just a place where you can hear the word, you can get that on the internet. Chruch is a place where a group of believers can gather together and be a part of something, and share with each other their experiences, beliefs, and ways that God is working in their lives.
In fact that is what the church is. It’s not a building where we worship, it’s not the minsiters and staff that can help guide us in our journey. The church is the community, no matther where they gather. In Matthew 18:20, Jesus says “for where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am among them.”
We, the believers in Christ, are the church. If we are to spiritually grow as individuals, we need that sense of community and to have a group of believers that we can lean on and depend on in order to be everything God intended us to be.
Well, it’s time for some fried chicken and some fellowship with family. I’ll see everyone when I return back to Dallas tonight.
