Just another example of how we shouldn’t take life for granted, not one second. Who knows how many times Moore successfully managed to land that trick, who knows how many times he didn’t land that trick but walked away just fine. All it took was that one time for something to go horribly wrong.
That is the life that X Gamers generally lead, however. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard stories about these guys and girls and the wild things that they and wonder – “How are they still alive!” Sure we are graced with spectacular tricks, but with that comes spectacular wrecks. The X Games are about pushing the boundaries and being on the verge of out of control at all times. I can’t imagine the will and courage it takes to do what they do. Very rarely are people in the position of “not quite out of control.” But that is the line these people walk on everyday.
If there is anything that we should learn from this is that if you want to live on the verge of being out of control, you have to be willing to suffer the consequences of when you do lose control. I have no doubt that Caleb Moore knew the risks when he decided this was what he wanted to do for a living.
I know so many people that say they want to “be extreme” or do something amazing with their life, but then give up at the first sign of failure. If you want to do something extraordinary, you have have to be willing to fail extraordinarily.
