Christ in the Desert

Kramskoi_Christ_dans_le_désert

This is a painting by Ivan Kramskoy from 1867. It is called Christ in the Desert.

Two observations:
1) Jesus looks so human. Yes he is 100% divine and 100% human, but never have I seen a picture portray him as human as this painting has. It’s important that we understand that he was fully human so that he can be our sympathetic high priest.
2) The rock he is staring at. It is unusual as it seems to be standing there. I like to imagine it like that because the devil is tempting him, taunting him, daring him to turn it into bread.

A fascinating painting that I just wanted to share.
