I was first introduced to this concept during my intern training right before I made my way here to England. The way it was explained then I didn’t quite understand what it meant. But now after reflecting upon conversations I have had with a few people, during my time, I think I’ve known about agreements and what they are for some time now.

They are about LIES. Lies that Satan gets you to agree to. But unfortuantely we often forget this important truth:

Jesus says this about Satan in John 8:44 – “He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (emphasis added)

John Gilberts, who is the Chief of Staff of Greater Europe Mission, says this about Satan’s lies. “Satan has two favorite flavors of lie – kind of an unholy one-two punch to the soul. Lies about the nature and character of God, and lies about the nature and character of you. In fact, as I began to think about it more, the reality is that we are exposed to his lies every day – it is a core element of spiritual warfare and it is insidiously dangerous.”

Satan tries to make us believe lies in every area of our life, but he knows our weakness and tries to attack us there. Whether it’s our identity, our circumstances, our relationships, we have all been convinced of some lie.

How do we fight off such evil? We reconnect ourselves to the branch and allow He who is holy, He who is righteous, He who knows our sin but calls us by name, to prune us of this junk. Yes it will probably be painful, yes it will be something we will fight to hold on to. But Jesus is for us and wants us to thrive.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John10:10)

What lies has Satan told you that you have agreed to?
